What began as a thought
shall become a movement….Prakriti Foundation has been organizing
festivals for promoting Modern Art, - be it literature, music or dance.
This year, during the course of the
annual Prakriti Poetry Festival, there was a thought - to start a poetry
circle. Why do we need a poetry circle one may ask? Many reasons.
The poetry circle will be a forum
for poets to read out their work, provide a learning platform about different
forms of poetry. Poets may share their obsessions and techniques to improve
ones own skills. It aims to provide a fertile landscape for budding poets
to network and will help to expose those who have been scribbling away
in the dark corners of their homes and cafés.
The focus is to learn - about poetry,
from the poets and the academia. The circle is for the open minded idealist
who believes that true art is self expression without suppression. The
circle shall aim to groom poets who shall take "the Art of the Spoken word"
to the world. In simple words, bring out material which is good enough
to publish.
Talking about publishing, poetry
is always the last on a publisher’s priority. The market dynamics works
against poetry. Imagine a world where there are 50,000 poets waiting at
the door step of a leading bookstore, having already pre booked the latest
collection from "the Rockstar" of the poetry circle. This is what the Prakriti
Poetry Circle wishes to create here.
Prakriti Poetry Circle meets every
last Saturday of the month at the Apparao Gallery, Wallace Garden, 2nd
Street, Off Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam, starting on January 30th,
2010 at 7:00pm.
All are welcome.
