Uma Parameswaran was born in her
grandfather’s house in Mylapore, Madras. She grew up in Nagpur and Jabalpur.
She went to the United States on a Fulbright scholarship and took her M.A.
in Creative Writing from Indiana University. She recently retired as Professor
of English from the University of Winnipeg in Canada, so that she could
devote more time to her writing. She won the Jubilee Award for the Best
Collection of the Year (1999) for her what was Always Hers. Her poetry
titles are: Cyclic Hope Cyclic Pain, Trishanku (1989), and Sisters at the
Well (2002). Her fiction includes: Mangoes on the Maple Tree, The Forever
Banyan Tree, Fighter Pilots Never Die and Riding High with Krishna and
a Baseball Bat. She is currently engaged in writing a biography of C.V.Raman
for Penguin India. She lives in Winnipeg, Canada with her husband who is
a mathematician and Srivaishnavism scholar. They have a married daughter.
