Curator's note
Primal mounds recede from the foreground
into the horizon. These connect with time and space continuums of
history and memory. Chola emperors were paid a salt tax from Markanam
as per epigraphical evidence, echoes of Dandi and Gandhi, packed salt at
super markets, iodine deficiencies: Salt - The Boon and Bane.
Sujatha Shankar Kumar & V.Karthik
have created a series of very graphic visuals which have a post modern
sensibility without engaging or appropriating the communities sanctity.
These are heaps of truth, stories, pain, labour, love and finally salt
of the earth and sea.
Simultaneously shown are visual shadows
of buildings on water and the softening of the architectonic qualities
of skyscrapers melting. Memories translate into dreams and become
memories again.
'Transient Places' - of time and
space remind us to look within, reflect, review and reengage. The
landscape outside allows one to meditate on ones own interior landscape.
The flowers bloom inside out like our transient selves. Explore,
energise and evolve.
