Prakriti Foundation in association with British Council present Dylan Thomas - a portrait in prose and poetry
by Gareth Armstrong
Venue:
Amethyst, Sundar Mahal, Padmavathy Road, Jeypore Colony (Off Gopalapuram)
This programme explores the life and legacy of one of the twentieth century's
most influential and admired writers in English. Gareth Armstrong, who
shares a birthplace with the poet, reads from his verse, short stories and
reminiscences to reveal the complex and humorous genius of Dylan
Thomas.
Gareth Armstrong was born in Wales and graduated in Drama from Hull
University. He has worked extensively in regional theatre, the West End
and as a member of The Royal Shakespeare Company. He was a founding
Artistic Director of the 'Made in Wales' Stage Company and of the Sherman
Theatre in Cardiff.
When an Associate Artist at Salisbury Playhouse he wrote and performed
his solo play, Shylock - a play that has since toured over thirty countries
worldwide. Shylock has been published in English, translated and performed
in Catalan, Spanish and Italian. A book chronicling his adventures with this
play (A Case for Shylock - Around the world with Shakespeare's Jew) was
published last year.
Gareth also records audio-books, commentaries and voice-overs, and is a
frequent broadcaster with the BBC. He was a member of The Archers cast
for many years.
