Prakriti Foundation presented "Pantheons of Power: Iconography of the Royal Temples in South India"An illustrated talk by Dr. R Champakalakshmi

Awarded the Governor's Centenary Prize (Gold Medal, Madras University) for her M.Litt thesis on Jainism in South India, Champakalakshmi obtained her Ph.D for her thesis on Vaishnava Iconography in the Tamil Country. She retired as Professor in the Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1998. She has published 4 books (Vaishnava Iconography in the Tamil Country -1981; Trade, Ideology and Urbanization: South India from c.300 BC to AD 1300; and edited along with Prof. S Gopal, a festschrift for Romila Thapar entitled Tradition, Dissent and Ideology - 1996; The Hindu Temple - 2001; and several articles on Art, Religion, Society, State and Urbanization in South India. She has given TV programs on various aspects of Indian culture and has been a consultant for serials like Discovery of India by Shyam Benegal.
