Masters / Seniors: Yakshagana, Keremane Shambhu Hegde

Keremane Sivananda Hegde is a major artist of the family troupe and has participated in number of shows throughout India and abroad performing various types of characters. Has visited Nepal, England, USA, Sri Lanka, France, Spain, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine, Laos, and Myanmar to give performances. Has performed the leading roles in the productions - Krishnaleela, Ramaleela, Tulsi Ke Ram, Venkateshwara Vilasa etc. of Natya Ballet Centre, New Delhi. With Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bangalore, toured all over India performing in its productions. Directed Shrinagar Naradiyam - a Sanskrit (Comedy) dance drama, based on Yakshagana and also Pragathi-Vigathi - a contemporary ballet highlighting misuse of modern technology. He has been invited, by the Art and Culture Department of (Studio 7), Bijeshowry, Kathmandu, Nepal for demonstrate and perform "Yakshagana Dance" in the Naga Theatre of Hotel Vajra in the month of April 2002. He choreographed and directed music the episode 'Mahabharata' (an adapted episodes from Bhasa) for Studio 7. Participated in APPEX WORKSHOP organised by University of California, Los Angeles, and USA in 1996. Received Junior fellowship from Government of India for higher studies of traditional Yakshagana (A practical study of Uttara Kannada Style of Yakshagana with special emphasis on Nritya and Abhinaya) from the year 2000-2. Spends his spare time in the movement of environmental protection, photography and documentation of traditional Arts .

Yakshagana:
Heranjalu Venkataramana Ganiga is standing in for Keremane Shambhu Hegde, supporting Shambhu Hegde's son Sivananda. 72 years old, Heranjalu Venkataramana Ganiga stared his career as a Yakshagana artist in 1943 at the age of 13. He worked with groups like Idugunji Mela, Maranakatte Mela, Nibratheshwari, Saligrama and Kundavu Mela. He has also taught Yakshagana dance at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. He was principal and Yakshagana Guru at the Yakshagana Kendra, Udipi from 1974 to 1988 and the Guru at Shree Maya Kalakendra in Gunvante from 1988 to 1994. He is now engaged in teaching at his residence. He has toured Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Yugoslavakaia, UK and Russia in Yakshagana performances. He has performed in the female roles of Damayanti, Draupadi, Meenakshi, Chitrangada, Prameela and Subhadra. He has also played male roles like that of Krishna, Madana, Pradyumna, Lava – Kusha, Abhimanyu, Babhruvahana and Sudhama. He has been felicitated by Yakshagana Kendra, Udipi (1980), Marnakatte (1983), Heranjalu ( 1989), Uprahalli(1991), Idugunji Mahaganapathi Yakshagana Mandali (1993), Somaskshathriya Sanga Vyasaraya Mut, Kundapura ( 1994), Siddivinayaka Durgaparameshwari Samskruthika Sangha, Yalajith (1997), Shimoga Zilla Ganiga Sangha (1999), and has received the Karakada Shrinivasa Udupa Award.
